Looking for a RAWR-some dinosaur craft activity for kids? This project has three fun days of activities in one: a build, a craft and an experiment!


Day 1: Make Goopy Glue and Build a Volcano

Goopy Glue Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • ¼ cup salt
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 4 cups boiling water


  1. Mix flour, salt and 1 cup of lukewarm water with a whisk until smooth.
  2. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil and slowly add in the flour mixture.
  3. Continue stirring and allow mixture to boil for 3 minutes or until smooth and thick.
  4. Remove from heat to cool.


Build a volcano for kids

Volcano-Scape Materials

  • Large cardboard box, opened and flattened
  • Empty sour cream or large yogurt containers
  • Wood kindling or large sticks
  • Rocks and twigs
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks (adult supervision required)
  • Newspapers into approximately 5 cm wide strips

  1. Hot glue wood kindling or sticks to your empty container to form a volcano shape and secure structure to cardboard base with glue.
  2. Cut an opening in another container to form a cave shape and hot glue to cardboard base.
  3. Glue any other features like rocks and stick trees to the base.
  4. Dip newspaper strips into Goopy Glue, removing the excess with your fingers. Tip: This can get messy so be sure to roll up little sleeves.
  5. Stick newspaper strips around your volcano structure and cave, covering completely.
  6. Add other features like rivers, hills and more. Get creative!
  7. Allow to dry overnight until completely dry to the touch.

Day 2: Decorate Your Volcano and Prehistoric Landscape

  • Use paint and paint sticks to decorate your volcano, cave and prehistoric landscape.
  • Allow to dry completely.
  • Gather your dinosaur collection and explore your prehistoric world!

Day 3: Volcano Explosion


  • Your Volcano-Scape from Day 1
  • baking soda
  • 1-2 cups vinegar
  • 5-10 drops red food colouring


  1. Pour baking soda into the container at the top of your volcano until approximately half full.

  2. Add food colouring to vinegar and mix.
